Artist’s Statement

As an only child, I used to spend a lot of time on my own roaming around the Tuscan hills and by the nearby river, absorbed in the play of lights and shades, the sound of chirping crickets, the scent of wild herbs, daydreaming and creating my own little world. And I remember a feeling of blissful oneness – as if time was standing still.

Growing up, I always carried with me an undefined feeling of longing for that sublime state of mind. That state of mind that felt as if I was melting with my surroundings. Immersing myself in infinity. I suppose that unconsciously I was searching for it all the time and I found it here and there. In nature. In love. In meditation. And on the dance floor . . .  

And I also found it in Gernot Boehme’s perception theory, whereby the atmospheric, sensual experience that comes before the Cartesian separation between subject and object, when we’re still merged with our environment, stays at the beginning of all cognition. 

This is what my photography is all about. It’s about overcoming the bridge between myself and my subject. Grasping the magic in between. It’s about capturing fugitive moments of greatness and beauty. Saving them from oblivion. Enhancing their glow. And creating joy by sharing them with others.
